PCM40S Plastic Mold Steel with Excellent Mirror Finishability from Sanyo Special Steel Japan
The Ultimate in Performance
PCM40S is a plastic mold steel, pre-hardened with hardness as high as 40HRC and excellent mirror finishability. Sanyo Special Steel produces a high quality product at low cost using its advanced clean steel technology. This technology makes it possible to dramatically reduce non-metallic Inclusions in the steel without remelting.
Mirror Finishability
PCM40S, with a minimum level of non-metallic inclusions, is a high cleanliness steel for plastic molds that offers excellent mirror finishability
Hardness Distribution
PCM40S has even hardness from the surface to the core because of its microstructure with uniformly dispersed precipitated particles.
Weldability
PCM40S offers good weldability. Even those parts affected by welding have uniform hardness after aging. PCM40S also provides good surface finishability after build-up welding in association with design revision.
With the design changes, removing the surface remaining after welding is easy. (Please refer to the diagram, left, the hardness is among HV250~HV400 without aging treatment. It is uniform distribution at HV400 with aging treatment 500℃ x 5H.)
Nitriding Property
PCM40S provides hardness higher than 800 HV and excellent wear resistance by nitriding.
Manufacturing Process of PCM40S
Sanyo successfully eliminated the remelting process in the manufacture of PCM40S.
Physical Properties
Below are thermal expansion coefficient, thermal conductivity, specific heat, moduli of elasticity, density, and magnetic properties
Recommended Welding Conditions
Due to good weld ability, no part in the welded portion is hardened. Preheating is necessary to prevent welding cracks. To obtain uniform hardness, post heat the steel. It is necessary to conduct post heat treatment when textured finish is applied.
