High-toughness Hot Work Die Steel: QDN
QDN is a hot work die steel developed by improving the chemical composition of conventional AISI H13 steel. In response to demands for prolonged die life and cost reduction, QDN has been designed for better toughness, heat-checking resistance and corrosion resistance in molten AI alloy than AISI H13 through optimal alloy design.

Characteristics

♦ QDN has approximately two times higher toughness than that of AISI H13 when compared in equivalent hardness conditions due to the improvement of hardenability and the inhibition of segregation and coalescence of carbides.
♦ QDN has excellent resistance to corrosion in molten AI alloy by increasing chromium (CR) and molybdenum (Mo).
♦ The depth of heat-check is reduced remarkably due to better toughness than that of the AISI H13.

Applications

Suitable applications are:
♦ Dies for die casting
♦ Punches and dies for hot work forging and hot former
♦ Cutter blades and slitter for plastic and tire crushing machine
