Description:

The working principle of common gratings is based on the principle of physical moire formation. When the two lines are placed at an angle with the lines on the indicator grating and the lines on the ruler grating, the lines on the two scales will inevitably be crossed. Under the illumination of the light source, the small area near the intersection is overlapped by black lines, so the light-shielding area is the smallest, and the light blocking effect is the weakest. The light accumulation effect makes this area appear bright bands. Conversely, in areas farther away from the intersection, as the overlapping portions of the opaque black lines of the two scales become less and less, the area of the opaque area gradually increases, that is, the light-shielding area gradually increases, making the light blocking effect stronger. Only less light can pass through this area through the grating, making this area appear dark bands. These are almost perpendicular to the grating lines, and the light and dark bands that appear alternately are Moire fringes.
